purslane
Sitting on my patio enjoying the first pleasant morning in weeks, I looked around at my plants that I’ve been encouraging day by day as they too complained about the weather. A very few of my plants take all that summer can offer (such as my new Purslane like this one), but most just hang on. These include my roses, begonias, ivy, Kafir lily, Moses in a boat, and even my mint. (more…)

Flowers in the Wild

I have no idea what this flower is, but I can tell you that it smells divine. It was out in a field just growing. I have a hunch that it’s not actually wild, but just a flower that was planted long ago and has never given up. I’d love it if someone could tell me its name.

Welcoming Invasive Plants

Glorious Invasive Cosmos

We all probably grew up knowing a weed was a bad thing. We may have heard our folks talk about “weeding” the garden and in the general vernacular we all know about “weeding out the bad” which wasn’t just plants. However, gardeners know that a weed is actually just a plant that is growing where you don’t want it. A wildflower in an open field is a thing of beauty. That same little plant growing in among one’s roses is no longer so lovely. (more…)
